CAT ABUNDANCE RANKINGS

As it happens with density, abundance of the smaller cats tends to be low, particularly in areas in which ocelots are present. Our research is showing that the ocelot is the most versatile of the Neotropical small and medium sized felids. In more than 80% of sampled sites in Brazil, ocelots ranked as the most abundant felid. 

Usually we only manage to conduct long-term studies of the smaller cats at areas in which ocelots are either rare or absent.
